How real is the risk?

Dengue is spread by a type of mosquito called Aedes that are mainly found in warm and humid parts of the world.1 The risk of dengue depends on the country you’re traveling to and the time of year you are visiting.

How many people get sick with dengue?

About 1 in 4 people infected by the dengue virus will experience symptoms2 but even those who don’t get sick can spread dengue to other people via mosquito bites.3

Symptoms can either be mild or severe;2 about 1 in 20 people who get sick with dengue will develop severe dengue.2
